Trend Alert: Navy Blue in Interior Design

Navy blue is back!  I am very excited  because it is my favorite neutral and it has been a long time since navy has been celebrated in interior design.   You are going to see navy in furnishings, paint, accessories, tile, etc.   Have a look at what is coming.

Transitional Lighting

There are some terrific looks in transitional lighting. As I was researching options for this blog this beautiful drum pendant from Crystorama really caught my eye. The shade has a bit of shimmer, is translucent, plus it has a lot of personality with the bling.

Barbara Barry represents the epitome of transitional (classic) design.  She chose this clean drum fixture with a linen shade by Paul Marra designs for this Jackson Hole, Wyoming home.

I love this simple, elegant  chandelier by Nierman Weeks.  Neirman Weeks products are handmade in Maryland and available through your interior designer.

The Serena Drum Chandelier by Oly Studio is the focal point of the dining room.

Jonathan Adler has a nice collection of transitional lighting.   His Ventana 3 chandelier fits perfectly in this space.

Alexa Hampton chose Visual Comfort for  these pendant lights in this St. Kitts showhouse.

All of these resources are great places to begin researching the options for transitional style lighting.  I hope you find the perfect one!

A Much Loved Accessory: The Throw

Throws are an accessory that can add texture and color to a room as well as being very functional.  I want to share with you several types of throws and the variety of ways designers have used them to add texture and color to their designs.

This all white room is most certainly warmed up with the red patterned throws on both the sofa and chair.  I love the mixture of a more traditional plaid throw with another throw that is more global in its design.

By draping matching throws down the length of  the white chairs changes the feel of this room is changed entirely.  It adds a  distinct rustic influence to the chairs and unify them to the design.  Can you visualize this room without the throws on the chairs?

I love how how the designer  has draped this turquoise throw across the ottoman/cocktail table.  It is easily accessible for use as well as a beautiful accent color.

For those of you living in a modern setting, don't you love the shaggy throw on the black sofa? What a stunning design by west coast designer Shelly Riehl David.  Very Hollywood!

Designer Miles Redd always gets it right. Tossing a  sumptuous  fur throw on the settee at the foot of the bed just makes you want to curl up and stay awhile in this lovely room.  I would be tempted to just use this one for napping during the day.

Canadian designer, Sarah Richardson adds a pop of color with a beautiful red throw from Pottery Barn. The throw is the element that pulls the color scheme together and adds a touch of softness to a clean classically designed master bedroom.

A beach-inspred design by  Suzanne Kasler incorporates a sporty orange throw to the platform bed. It is a perfect finishing touch to a primarily neutral space.

There are so many resources for finding beautiful throws. Listed below are a few of them.  I hope you find the perfect throw for your home.

Eye-catching Range Hoods

A beautiful range hood hood is one way to create a focal point for a kitchen design.  Here are a few to consider when creating  your kitchen wish list.

The mixture of copper  hoodover stainless range illustrates the point that mixing metals can make an interesting kitchen design.
A french Lacanche Range and custom zinc and stainless hood is a showstopper.

Note here that kitchen designers are still specifing brass.  It is the perfect choide for this  Country French kitchen and don't you love the backsplash design over the range?

My Favorite Things: Library Ladders

One of my favotie things are library ladders. They can be used as a decorative element or function as a useful way to access the vertical spaces in your home.

They are fun  way to access storage a child's room.  Children will love climbing up and down to get their toys.

I love this idea for purse and shoe storage.  You know, a girl can never have too many!

And finding a favorite books is so much easier with this spunky red ladder!

How about incorporating a library ladder in your kitchen to acces high cupboard space, or.....

to reach your accessories to rearrange or rotate them.

This certainly makes the case of building all the way to the ceiling.

ia Patricia Gray interiors Inc from Southern Accents Magazine

Or if you just love the way they look, get one and prop it up in your library (bookshelf) area.

If you are now inspired to add one of these lovelies to your home, here are some resources where you might purchase them:
