Brass is Back!!

Brass and gold tones are making a comeback in 2016 after several years of the cooler tones being the trend. I was reading the update from this year's National Kitch and Bath Industry Show and one of the new rends this year is to incorporate brass fixtures into kitchen and baths.

The brushed brass lighting, faucets and hardware are really the jewelry for this room.

This brushed brass faucet from Delta was one of the new items showcased this year at the HGTV dream home.
The American Standard sink is very charming with brass legs and faucet.

Designer Tobi Fairley combined brass with warm gray cabinetry and resulted in a unique and luxurious kitchen.

If you are bulding a home or remodeling your kitchen or bathroom, consider using brass in your design.  It is Back AGAIN!

Outdoor Living Living Looks in 2016

We have always enjoyed wraparound porches here in the South as an outdoor space.  A porch swing brings back nostalgic feelings of days gone by and creates a relaxing place to visit and sip iced tea.

Terrace areas complete with a cooking area are a big trend now.  Don't you love the architecture of the big hood surrounded by that beautiful blue and white tile?

These doors that fold back completely create an indoor-outdoor space, perfect for entertaining.

If opening up the entire wall  isn't possible, then large openings are a great way to invite people to the outdoors and to enjoy the views.

This rather formal terrace area is very eye-catching done in mixed textures and white.  The modern wing back chairs are gorgeous!

A fireplace or firepit seems to be in great demand.  I am seeing them being built all over our neighborhood.  What a wonderful place to sit and have a glass of wine or read during a crisp fall morning

I hope this sparked some interest in creating an outdoor living space in your home.

Mosaic Tile: Hot New Trend

I have been working on up-dating a laundry room and kitchen.  In this process we have to choose tile for the backsplash.  The hot new trend in tile is mosaic tile.

Below are some interesting designs using mosaic tiles.

Perk up a small bath by using it the tile extensively.

Laundry rooms are a great place to try out a mosaic tile installation.  Notice the countertop was painted to match the backsplash in this fun laundry area.

Even in a monocromatic laundry room, the mosaic adds a touch of texture and interest.

This designer went all out in this colorful kitchen and what a statement!

Below is the laundry area I have been working on.  We installed a quartz countertop, Frosty Carrina by Caesarstone which has a Carrara marble look and used a mosaic tile that was a combination of Carrara and clear glass tiles.  The room was repainted in Benjamin Moore AC 22 Nantucket Fog, an interesting blue/gray.  Have to add a few finishing touches like a fun light fixture but check out the before picture below the after pic.

Would you consider a mosaic tile in your next design project?

What Designers Wish Clients Knew

Hi long lost readers!

Sadly, I have been very negligent with my blogging.  This means I have been busy with work and my two little grandsons (George -27 months and Charlie 7 months).  They are so much fun!  I have a difficult time going much more than a couple of weeks without seeing them (they live a couple of hours away).

But today this happy "Gammy" wants to share this article with you. I plan on giving it to every new client to read.

If you have ever hired a designer or decorator or ever want to hire one this article is for you.   Click on the link and read at your leisure and leave me a comment or question after you are finished.

Hope you all are having a great summer.
